The Twin Towers Alliance Petition

When someone dies it is impossible to bring them back to life, but we are given a unique opportunity to do just that in this case;
bring the Twin Towers back to life instead of being haunted by their absence.
— Matt Franzblau | All Other NY & NJ Residents

Where Am I?

We, the undersigned, share the belief that nothing could be more inspiring to our people, or disheartening to our enemies, than Twin Towers, at least as tall as before in every respect, soaring above Ground Zero.

We believe that the devastation of September 11, 2001, clouded the picture long after the rubble was cleared away and that a thorough public examination of the rebuilding option is overdue and now required before proceeding on an unalterable course.

We recognize no financial or political roadblocks that cannot be overcome if rebuilding the Towers is the will of the people. And, we see no conflict between stunning Twin Towers and a noble Memorial, which belong together on this site that means so much to us all.

We submit that there is only one way to truly heal the skyline of Manhattan and the heart of America: Rebuild the Twin Towers. Doing anything less would leave a permanent scar on the face of New York and diminish a legendary city.

The words of this petition ring as true now as they did in 2006. And the thousands of comments that have been left since we first posted it are just a glimpse into how much people cared about rebuilding the World Trade Center in a way that would honor the will of the people and the price this country – and the world – paid on 9/11. Now, even though a third tower has joined the two pictured above, the WTC skyline doesn't come close to the awe-inspiring vision of the towers we lost.

We trust that time will take care of rebuilding the Twin Towers. From their inception, they were dedicated to world peace and cooperation in ways that no other commercial structure ever was. And, they came to represent the aspirations of millions of people as no other towers ever could. They should not have been abandoned. We have faith that one day the people of this country and the world will recognize the Twin Towers' powerful significance and demand they be restored to the world's skyline. We thank each one who adds his or her name and comment to the petition below for moving our world one step closer to that day.

    We need the Twin Towers. The new tower, One World Trade Center, just does not do it justice. I can’t even express the amount of sadness I have that those buildings aren’t there anymore, and what’s in their place is an eyesore, a modern contemporary-design skyscraper that completely ignores what made the Twin Towers unique. Nothing like them has ever existed, they were a tribute to the time period in which they were built, and a symbol of America. New York, and America itself needs the Twin Towers back.

Please Note: This petition is meant to provide a forum for this subject alone. It is a petition, not a bulletin board. We will not sanitize controversial remarks if the comments are primarily in support of the petition's purpose. But off-topic remarks are subject to removal on a case-by-case basis to keep the focus where it belongs. Thank you.

Important Mention: Those who read back over the comments will find that from time to time we have highlighted excerpts to help those who only have time to skim a page get a sense of what people are thinking and feeling. We rarely do that now and it was never a methodical effort, but just a window on public opinion regarding this monumentally important issue. The important thing to know is that no comment matters more than any other. Each one is valued and helps make the case that the public was sidelined on something that mattered so much.

TTA Note: Occasionally a current signature will disappear. When that happens it is because someone who has already signed the petition signs a second time and when the second signature is validated the two are automatically merged and appear in the original chronology. If someone leaves a second signature and comment, it automatically overwrites the earlier placement when the validation link is activated. If it isn't activated, or it is made using a different email address, there will be duplicate signatures. When we recognize that someone has signed before, we will delete the earlier entry and, if it was verified, verify the new one, since the clear intention is to make the new comment visible. We may decide to manually include the earlier comment at the end of the current message.

Regarding anonymous signatures: Taking a stand using one's full name is always preferred, but when a name is withheld, the signature and sentiments are still of value. In every case, we have an email address that corresponds with the entry and is kept private.

* Indicates that the signer has not yet activated the validation link, often due to spamblocking software. They are included out of respect for the sincerity of the comments.
