Sixteen years after 9/11, we owe it to all who have ever believed in the effort to rebuild the Twin Towers – and all who will visit this site in the future – to present an honest assessment of the World Trade Center today. This is the truth as we see it, which is all anyone can ever offer. We think people deserve a place where they go to learn about the PR hype that gave us all a diminished skyline, a diminished country, and a diminished world – and with that knowledge, the chance to perhaps dream a new dream.

The full quote of the signature words in our header urges: “Dream no small dreams for they have no power to move the hearts of men.” A variation of that theme built the Twin Towers, when the legendary executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at the time, Austin Tobin, famously used a related quote whenever he gave a speech seeking to build support for the World Trade Center: “Make no small plans, for they have no magic to stir the blood…”

That is the philosophy that rocketed a man to the moon and drove another man – high-wire daredevil Philippe Petit – across the void between the Twin Towers. When asked if he was ever scared up there, Petit said he was – when he had one foot on the building and one foot on the wire. In that spirit, we want to proclaim that all we have learned over the past twelve years leads us to believe, now more than ever, that the national imperative to rebuild and re-pair our country should begin at the World Trade Center.

We realize that such a statement will be ridiculed by the same small-minded experts, special interests, and talking heads who let the American people down at Ground Zero and sold the country short to begin with. But after all the years spent striving to challenge the politically “correct” conventional “wisdom” regarding the World Trade Center, that is what we truly believe. So ridicule away. Americans need to know that we still have an historic opportunity to make the World Trade Center ALL that it can be – not just the slick by-product of political cowardice, media manipulation, and corporate greed. Diminished expectations have no place at the forever-hallowed site at Ground Zero, where the whole world witnessed how superhuman mere mortals can be.

The Twin Towers were a heady blend of the practical and the sublime. They epitomized both worldly and spiritual striving. That was perfectly captured when an AT&T ad in the Nineties showed an Olympian pole-vaulting between them. As far as we know, they were the only commercial buildings in the world that were dedicated – from their very inception – to world peace and cooperation. Splendid new twins would be a veritable shrine to a better world. Our Coalition tab will soon showcase an idea whose time we hope will come. As we say on our Petition page, we have faith that one day the people of this country and the world will recognize the Twin Towers’ powerful significance and demand they be restored to the world’s skyline.

The idea of rebuilding the Twin Towers isn’t as radical as it may sound. If the American people were apprised of what we refer to as “The Swindle at Ground Zero” it is very possible that they would demand new Twin Towers be built. They well could be. They certainly should be. But what we are saying here, on the cusp of the 16th anniversary of 9/11, is that while the many forms of observance and remembrance are important and fitting, the most respectful thing we can do is to seek and record the whole truth.

For our part, we are determined to prevent those elements that robbed the people of the World Trade Center we had every right to expect from also sealing the record of how they did it – while they take their bows. We intend to keep fighting the pernicious trend toward manufactured and packaged information that is demoralizing and degrading our nation by letting the the highest bidder dictate the prevailing narrative. President Lincoln once advised: “Let the people know the facts and the country will be safe.” And, of course, the opposite is true. That is the ultimate meaning behind the words it is never too late to do the right thing.

*The Twin Towers Alliance has spent the last seven years “Looking Out for the Public Interest at Ground Zero”. That work is expanding and all information related to our watchdog activities will be transferred to www.twintowersalliance.org and accessed by the Institute tab as soon as this upgrade is complete. The Journal, which has tracked WTC-related news since 2012 (of which there is very little lately) will expand to include updates on our activities. That site is also being overhauled and some previous content may be unavailable until that is complete. All other TTA links will become accessible again through the Index tab.
