The original Twin Towers should be rebuilt in beautiful glass and same height as the old ones!
The current one WTC might look good in a different part of NYC but not at ground zero!
The design of the new 2 WTC proposal is an insult to all Americans and needs to be scrapped! Putting a building that looks like boxes falling over next to 1 WTC that looks like a pyramid would be ultimate insult!

I always would have wanted to visit the twin towers.
I am very sad about the new complex, the main looks nice but very boring, its taking more than 20 years to complete, 2 towers can’t even get built, and 6 world trade center is missing.
I want the tower to be rebuilt as whenever I look at pictures, they always show me american power and freedom.

NYC’s skyline is not the same without the majestic twin towers gracing it. We as New Yorkers hope that our elected officials will listen and do the right thing and rebuild the twin towers bigger and stronger than ever and show those who hate our great nation that we will never be defeated because we are NY STRONG!

    Rebuild the towers!!

  • signature permalink Jannick Tp * 11/3/2019

The proposed design for the new Two World Trade Center is a joke and will look awful from anywhere except NJ. However, we should be rational enough to acknowledge that the old design will never be rebuilt – this is good as we should look into the future instead of the past! Nevertheless, a second twin for 1WTC is necessary as so many on this website have made clear already.

I was born in 2004 so by that time the towers were already gone. In school however they still had old pictures of the once glorious skyline, and as a young child I always wondered why they took them away.

I was too young to remember when the towers fell down in 2001. When I learned about what New York used to be with the Twin Towers, I was stunned. Now as a young adult, I kind of wish the towers were still standing as I view them as beautiful landmarks that fulfill the NYC skyline. I just wish the 9/11 attacks never happened cause now I have to live in this new reality which sucks. The current 1WTC sucks as it only covers parts of that gap. It doesn’t feel even feel the same. I believe a solution to that is to build a second twin tower at the 2WTC but who knows. Twin Towers II would have been a perfect solution but it was those corporate sums that wanted their way and didn’t want to listen to the voices. I hope to see these towers in some way someday.

Today is the 17th anniversary of the destruction of the towers and they need to be rebuilt as soon as possible to restore the skyline. They only lasted less than 30 years and the memorial fountains on the footprints of the towers are a waste of land space. Rebuilding the towers as an addition to One World Trade Center will bring jobs and tourism back to lower Manhattan and show that our country can fight back to the terrorists. A steel façade should also be added to One World Trade Center to resemble the classic twin towers. The new towers should still have a memorial in front to commemorate the lives lost in the attacks 17 years ago. Dismantle the memorial pools, rebuild the towers there, and move the victims’ names somewhere else.

My heart has never been the same without those beautiful majestic towers. I always felt a sense of connection to them and now that they are gone I feel that New York no longer feels like New York. For those of you too young to remember you’ll never know how truly spectacular these towers were. You can’t replace an icon.

The greatest city in the world, the two most iconic buildings in it and more importantly the people who were affected by 9/11 deserve a true comeback. The only way to truly redefine lower Manhattan or NYC is to rebuild the twin towers or at the very least build a second freedom tower or 2 WTC.

The new One World Trade Center, in my opinion, is not an icon but simply another skyscraper in New York. Worse, if you look at it from the right angle it tapers in a very ugly manner. I do believe that the Twin Towers should be rebuilt better, taller, and stronger. It would leave a lasting image if our country and city’s resilience, and honor those who died on 9/11.

  • signature permalink Peter Crisci 10/7/2014

The Freedom Tower was a capitulation to the terrorists. They were determined to eliminate the twin towers as a symbol of the United States, making two major attempts, and in the end, they got what they wanted. Having two, huge twin towers on the skyline was so striking, impressive, and iconic, as opposed to just adding some more skyscrapers. Rebuilding the World Trade Center as it was, except bigger and better, would have been the most fitting memorial and sent the most powerful message of resiliency and determination.

As I sit here on the very date that we lost thousands of lives with this great tragedy, I think of how many times I have driven through downtown Manhattan and have passed what I can depict to be an eyesore.
This big, cold, ugly skyscraper that now represents the World Trade Center.
This building not only lacks in design by so many measures.
The fact that I can pick other skyscrapers in Manhattan that were erected since the 9/11 disaster that would have been a better replacement is pathetic!
I do truly understand why nothing was built on the grounds themselves in respect to the families of the many lives that were lost but if there is a feasible way to rebuild a more beautiful and better twin towers in that area, then why not do it???

  • signature permalink Dori Duarte 4/14/2014

That single tower doesn’t “symbolize” anything in my opinion. Except, well perhaps we ran out of money and couldn’t afford to build a second tower. They should have built Twin Towers from the start!

The Freedom tower is absolutely nothing. The Twin Towers made New York City period! The Freedom tower will not heal New York City’s skyline. The attacks stabbed a huge whole in everyones heart which is unable to heal if the Twin Towers can’t be rebuilt. We as Americans need to come back bigger and stronger.

As a child I always admired The Twin Towers. They were the pride and joy of the United States of America but the heart and soul of my fellow New Yorkers and I. I always wanted my dad to take me to see the towers at night. I remember riding the Staten Island Ferry just to watch those beautiful towers beam. The Twin Towers played a significant role in my childhood, my heart was extremely broken on 9/11/01. I would love to see those towers that once graced our NYC skyline standing where they stood 11 1/2 years ago. This One WTC is an epic disgrace to Americans, tourists, 9/11 families and NYC residents. Please Rebuild The Twin Towers.

Thank you very much for creating this petition to rebuild the great Twin Towers. Twenty years ago I was so fortunate to go there, to see its memorable architecture and its million dollar views. They always had a commanding presence, representing the greatness of New York City and the USA. These magnificent buildings MUST be rebuilt to show the world that we are stronger than EVER!

The Twin Towers were historic landmarks in the greatest city in the world. New York City isn’t the same without our Two Brothers standing tall and firm. As a memorial to all those lost I strongly believe the Twin Towers should be rebuilt. It shows the world that we’re courageous and we don’t back down. When we fall, we get back up. We don’t send someone else in to take our place (Freedom Tower). We will never get back all the innocent lives lost on that horrible gloomy day but we can honor them by showing them we will not be defeated. New York City is a brave city. Let’s prove it by picking our brothers back up and having them stand tall and proud once again.

I loved the twin towers. Every time I saw them, I would say to my young son, “There are the twin towers,” like a ritual. Those buildings stood for so much; to me, they were New York. Their stark simplicity, power, grace, and unmistakable presence inspired me. I don’t like the new tower they are making. In fact, I am sorry to say I hate it, and I feel like crying every time I see a rendering of what it will look like completed. It is not even discernible among other buildings. Even, if they never rebuild the twin towers, the picture I have of NYC will always include them.

  • signature permalink Robert Heller 9/11/2011

The Twin Towers were the New York skyline, they are the iconic symbols of what makes America. They were taken from us along with many innocent lives. We cannot replace people nor can we replace icons. By rebuilding the Twin Towers we honor those we have lost, as well as honor all the brave men and women defending our freedom, showing the world our resilience in overcoming tragedy with rebirth and renewal. The Twin Towers were taken from us, they would still be here as the New York skyline had 9-11 not happened, as would the thousands of loved ones we lost. It is time and has been time we bring back our Twin Towers, moving on to our future by staying true to our past.

We will not sanitize controversial remarks if the comments are primarily in support of the petition's purpose. But off-topic remarks are subject to removal on a case-by-case basis to keep the focus where it belongs. Thank you.

Important Mention: Those who read back over the comments will find that from time to time we have highlighted excerpts to help those who only have time to skim a page get a sense of what people are thinking and feeling. We rarely do that now and it was never a methodical effort, but just a window on public opinion regarding this monumentally important issue. The important thing to know is that no comment matters more than any other. Each one is valued and helps make the case that the public was sidelined on something that mattered so much.

TTA Note: Occasionally a current signature will disappear. When that happens it is because someone who has already signed the petition signs a second time and when the second signature is validated the two are automatically merged and appear in the original chronology. If someone leaves a second signature and comment, it automatically overwrites the earlier placement when the validation link is activated. If it isn't activated, or it is made using a different email address, there will be duplicate signatures. When we recognize that someone has signed before, we will delete the earlier entry and, if it was verified, verify the new one, since the clear intention is to make the new comment visible. We may decide to manually include the earlier comment at the end of the current message.

Regarding anonymous signatures: Taking a stand using one's full name is always preferred, but when a name is withheld, the signature and sentiments are still of value. In every case, we have an email address that corresponds with the entry and is kept private.

* Indicates that the signer has not yet activated the validation link, often due to spamblocking software. They are included out of respect for the sincerity of the comments.
